If you run paint and then choose open file and select a jpeg it won't open it? Or are you trying to double click a jpeg file and it is being opened by some other software instead of paint? If it's the second one, then change the settings in Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) under view\options\file types.

If you wanted to you can open the jpeg in internet explorer, size the window so that the entire image is visible, press CTRL + Print Screen, open paint and do edit-> paste.

just open MS Paint... go to open, change the file options to "All Files" and find your jpeg... should open right up... i tried just now before posting so it theoretically should be fool-proof...

He may be able to open the jpeg file, but he'll only be able to save it as a bitmap file in Paint.

The only way to have (MS Paint) open and save files as jpeg (for me, anyway) was by installing Microsoft Office. I used Office 97 Professional at the time and installed Microsoft Photo Editor.

Go to Microsoft.com, go to the downloads section, and download the latest version of paint.exe for your OS - that should fix it right up. You should be able to view and save JPGS as JPGS.
The reason some people use paint for JPGs is because it's fast and easy.
