How do I get out of a Wireless contract?

I hate my SprintPCS service. Calls never go through, and half the time they get dropped. Is there a way to cancel a contract? I should have like 9 months left on it.

Generally not without paying a termination fee. Sometimes you can get lucky and they'll have some change to their terms of service like AT&T did for me last year, they give you a month to drop w/no fees. If you stay are are assumed to agree with the new service terms (it was some $1 monthly tax or something).

I've heard that if you tell them that you are moving out of the country, you can get out of it.

Tell them that and cancel your credit card before they can add any additional charges. :D

Sounds like Non-performance. There is a clause for that.

you could say you have cancer and need to move to a location without sprint service for medical treatment.

Can you just cite it and stop using it and not pay?

Pay up.

You could cancel your account, and refuse to pay them, but it will hurt your credit rating. I can think of a few choices out of hand:

1) Pay them the cancelation fee.
2) Complain bitterly and maybe they will sweeten the deal for you.
3) Complain bitterly and maybe they will replace your phone.

I feel your pain, really I do. I use SprintPCS. Fortunately, I have a business account with them. SprintPCS seems to treat it's business customers much nicer than the consumers.

Just for the record, I think that is a bad thing. They should treat all their customers well.

Sure! You don't have to pay anything! Just walk away from a legally binding contract, no questions asked...

Listen, my wife (before we were engaged) tried to pull that. Her credit report still isn't fixed. SprintPCS will report your non-payment to the credit agencies, and they WILL hand your deadbeat account over to a collection agency.

Unless you like having they rest of your financial life screwed over, pay up.

(Bitch Your Brains Out)

Ive yet to deal with a cell company that will not offer some incentives (i.e. new phone, better plan, refund on minutes lost) if you bitch at them enough about how crappy their service/your phone is.

I just switched to AT&T from Sprint.

Over at FW there was a thread with alternatives to reduce the damage --

1. Ask the retention dept. for the "emergency plan". It's 50 minutes a month with $1.00 per extra minute, but only $10. Still cheaper than paying $150 to cancel.

2. If you are in the military you can ask for the vacation plan. Your service is pretty much shut off but it's only $5 a month.

I cannot emphasize enough how important this is!

Back in 1999 I sent an epic bitch letter to the local Sprint PCS district manager's office (busmaster11 I can find your local district office if you'd like, PM me with your zip code) ... it was 3 pages long, single spaced and documented dates and events of all the problems I had. I was so pissed off that I couldn't even mail it to them so I fax'd it to them with my e-mail address.

2 hours later I received a nice 1 page apology letter via e-mail stating that some charges were reversed (about $144 - they had misquoted me some of their rates), my account has been closed in good standing, they are going to look into this, blah blah blah and my favorite, they'd love for me to give Sprint PCS another chance.

Since then I've been with T-Mobile (VoiceStream Wireless) for nearly 4 years and have been extremely happy with the service I receive and the price I pay.
