I can't seem to get my car cd player to play mp3's in order when I use my thumb drive. I RTFM and it said that it plays them in alphabetical order. So I went through and renamed them all. It plays most of them in order but it still jumps around.

Is it possible that its going by ID3 tags? If so, how do I edit those?

I do not have the answers you seek, but I'd just like to say that your head unit sounds like it's a complete PITA.

Need a ID3 editor: http://download.cnet.com/Id3-E...0-2141_4-10415129.html
If you don't need any of the ID3 info ,I would recommend stripping the ID3 info (blanking out everything) and just leave filename.

sweet! I'll try that. I have gotten some books on tape...well not really books on tape....they are talks and it messes me up when they are out of order.

I had (circa 2003) an MP3 CD player in my car that seemed random until I realized that it was case sensitive. It's alphabetical order wasn't:
"AaBbCcDdEeFf..." but rather "ABCD...XYZabcd...xyz"
