How do I get my FTP server to work behind my firewall?

Hi There

I am trying to get BulletProof FTP server to work behind my harware firewall. It's a USR 8000 router/firewall.

In the router settings I have allowed port 21 and directed it to the PC running BulletProof.

As I understand it, I need to have some data socket ports opened on the firewall as well for users to be able to log in and download files. Is this correct?

How do I go about doing this? I mean, how does the FTP server know which ports to use? Should I ditch this program and get another one?

My friend only gets an error message "failed to establish data socket".

Flowers and wine for the one who gets this one!!! 😉

The only other port you should have to open is 20. That's what the data connection rides on for a normal FTP server running through port 21.
