Just suck it up and head to an electronics store in the morning to purchase a new one. Heck if you lived near by I would tell you to stop on by and pick one up from me. I have 4 of those laying around from old speaker sets.

I thought about buying one. I am sure I can find one for a few bucks, but money is not a problem here. I am just pissed about this guy is avoiding for this miscellaneous cable he doesn't need.
You will die earlier than you might with that sort of mindset. Induceing stress of one's own construction.
Either learn to be a better custodian of one's own property or let the damn thing go already.

DO you really want to give this much power in your life to this event?

I am very selective about my friends. people like this normally don't enter my life, he is just an exception.

I had a 'pal' like this a few years back. He loaned (without asking or telling me) my Starcraft CD to his girlfriend, then a month later breaks up with her in a nasty way. I didn't miss it at first, until one night we decide to reinstall it and play some - he tells me where the CD was. I'm cool with it - but tell him ne needs to get it back, or buy a new one (by this time they were easily found for $10)... skip forward a couple months and many nags later, still no CD.

I told him I didn't want him around any more. Over a $10, probably 3-year-old game. Rather, the *principle* of the three year old, $10 game.

As others have said, cut your losses and move on.

Send him a mailing with "MALE-2-MALE" on the front of the envelope somewhere, concerning the male-to-male cable he was loaned.;)
Wait patiently for his parents to kick him out.

Sounds like a deal to me.

There ya go. Buy a new one, quit bugging him. He'll never call you again anyway.

Cut your loses and just lose complete contact with him. If he's a person you don't care much about then it shouldn't be a problem. You'll probably be better off without someone like him around.
