Have you tried rebooting? Or possibly ctrl+alt+del, kill explorer.exe, then run it again?

Right click on the folder and goto "Properties"

Then goto the security tab and adjust things there.

no dice windogg... I right click on a folder and it gives me three tabs...

'general', 'sharing', and 'customize'. I presume you are talking about the sharing tab, but when i chose to share the folder in question, I get this message:

"An error occurred while trying to share My Documents. Access is denied. The shared resource was not created at this time."

reboot and delete it. as Entity said, kill explorer.exe. Sometimes it takes control of a folder and holds it.

If you do not see a security tab then you are using FAT32 and not NTFS. I go with what Entity said.

Hmmm.... the "Access Denied" is a symptom of trying to access "Documents and Settings" under an account other than Administrator. It's usually as simple as changing the NTFS permissions.

Anyway to take a screenshot of your properties screen?

Well, in User Accounts, it says I am a computer administrator, but it won't let me in the certain folders. Here is how this happened:

I shared this computer with a couple other roommates. At the login screen for Windows XP, I had a password. Well, sh!t happened and I had to reinstall windows, so I have a second windows installation running right now, but i still can't get into those folders that were in the "My Documents" folder on the old windows install under my login (that required a password)... I don't know if that makes anymore sense to you, but that's the breakdown. Is there anyway to recover the data?

This is rediculous, still can't get in the folders... So this "NTFSDOS" would work? Where can I find a dos boot disk to download? I haven't needed one in a long time...

Wow, j00 is a newb.

Change ownership of the folder and files to yourself and set the permission on the folder to Full for j0urself.

That would require logging in as the person who owns that folder, which would not be possible, obviously. If it were, Fast User Switching would solve all of this. But since it's not a possibility... ;)

No it doesn't. If he is administrator, then he just needs to change owner ship to himself.

That's the way to do it, change ownership.

You need to be logged in as Administrator to do so. Also, to change ownership, you'll need to get to the security tab. If you can't see it, then your account is not Administrator. Use the Administrator account.

I'm not logged in as "Administrator" but I have administrative privilages, just like Dolemite. I guess I have more learning to do than I thought.

Did anyone read this from earlier?

And if I am not the Ultimate Supreme Administrator afterall, how do I become one? I am the frickin owner of the frickin computer! :disgust:
