How do I get into folders that say "Access is denied"?

Hmmm , try rebooting your system (generic windows fixall), or if that doesn't work (and you're sure that you have permission to access the files) then make sure that the files exist.

If you are an administrator on that computer, then you can right-click on the folder, click the Security tab and then click Add and select your user account. It appears that you are trying to access the My Documents folder of another user on the computer. By default, the profile directories (the folders in the Documents and Settings folder) allow access to the owner and the Administrators group. Since you are denied access, that would lead me to believe you aren't in the administrators group, so you won't be able to do anything about any of this.

Good Luck

if everything fails and you have critical data in that folder I would suggest to use Knoppix to get the data out of it.

I hope this helps,

Well, in User Accounts, it says I am a computer administrator, but it won't let me in the certain folders. Here is how this happened:

I shared this computer with a couple other roommates. At the login screen for Windows XP, I had a password. Well, sh!t happened and I had to reinstall windows, so I have a second windows installation running right now, but i still can't get into those folders that were in the "My Documents" folder on the old windows install under my login (that required a password)... I don't know if that makes anymore sense to you, but that's the breakdown. Is there anyway to recover the data?

Try to disable simple filesharing, go to the NTFS properties, and try to take ownership of the folder/files..

if your an admin you can get into anything. right click and choose properties then click security and change your privilages. you also might have to add yourself to the list or declare yourself the owner of the folder

worst case senario you can convert the file system to fat32, the folders/files should lose all their security settings when you do that

Everyone says to "right click and go to security" but i can't seem to find that tab anywhere.... what gives?

Look for Sharing and Security. Or Go to Properties, then look for the Security Tab..

Also, Go to tools menu, folder options, View tab, scroll to the bottom, and un-check "Simple File Sharing"
