I just installed the Graphical version and I was wondering how to get it to run on my second core.

Hello avi85 and welcome to the TeAm :)

You can only run one F@H GUI per computer, but you can run up to seven consoles (if you have eight cores) also.

The console can be run as a service if you don't want the button showing on the Task Bar or you can use TrayIt or FAH3Tray.exe to have it only showing in the systray.

To run the console version you must put it (it is an executable and not an installer) in a separate directory and make a shortcut to it. Now right click the shortcut and select Properties and then in the "Target" textbox, at the end of what is in there add a space and a dash (-) and then "local" without the quotes. You can also add a couple of more flags so it would look something like this:

C:\fah2\FAH5.04b.exe -local -verbosity 9 -forceasm

The first time you run the program it will enter Setup where you answer some questions like name (enter exactly the same as you did in the GUI) and team (198) and more. It is very important to answer Yes to advanced options because you have to change the MachineID from the default "1" (which is what the GUI is) to a "2". If you don't change the MachineID you will probably have both instances crunching the exact same WU (work unit).

If you want to set the console up as a service check out MDE's Set up guide, the link is at the bottom of the daily F@H stats thread. Edit: amdxborg beat me to it!

If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask :)

No, it will run on a second machine with the same Machine ID you only need to change it if you are running two cores on the same machine. Just be sure you enter your UserID exactly the same as on the 1st computer so you get your points credited properly and don't forget Team 198 :D

thanks guys, got it running on both cores, I was just wondering where there is an explanation about how the points work, how I can tell the program to download work worth more points.
Also, how long are WU's supposed to take to complete?

Scoring isn't really F@H's strong point. They will vary wildly from one Work Unit to the next (with respect to time spent on it)

There isn't a way built into the F@H system that let's us pick and choose which WU gets assigned to a given client.

With your computer (sig), I would say to expect WUs to take from 1 to 2.5 days each, depending on the work unit.

Their "system" : They attempt to benchmark each WU on a defined (IMHO, imaginary) computer and then add bonus points to keep certain hardware scoring better than all the rest.. But every other aspect of the project is great.

The bonus WUs use more system resources - bigger downloads, more ram, more memory bandwidth - and so get double points.

To enable the client to get bonus WUs you should answer "Yes" to >5MB download during configuration.

If you want to reconfigure make another shortcut and add:

-local -configonly

to the Target textbox. Stop the client and double click this new shortcut and you will re-enter configuration.

The WUs are benchmarked on a P4@2.8 and the points set so that this computer would get 110 points per day.
