how do i get dual monitor setup?

If you get a new Radeon, it will most likely have 2 monitor outputs on the back. You don't necessarily need 2 video cards.
 
i just have a cheap 16mb pci voodoo 3 card.if all you need to do is show windows and no games on it, go for cheap. it works nicley fo rme
 
AbsolutDealage: there's always the possibility of three monitors (I've been there, it's nice). Right now I'm using a 4MB Matrox Millenium (MGA) as a 2nd card in this system. Dirt cheap way to go.
 
you either need 1 AGB or PCI video card that had 2 outputs on it OR 2 1 output cards. plug it all in

right click on desktop -> properties and click on teh second monitor and select "extened my windows desktop on this monitor"

Question: by having two cards (instead of using two outputs on one card) are the monitors more independent of one another? Reason I ask is that it'd be nice to have e-mail/AIM open in one monitor and a game open in the other for purposes of coordinating with others online (ie- "hey, I'm in BF1942 server xxx.xx.xxx.xxx).
 
yes you can set them independently either way. BUT if you are in a game you will have to "alt+tab" out anyway to type something in an AIM window

Ah...gotcha. I was hoping to avoid that since alt-tabbing BF1942 takes 5 min to switch screens. That game is a freaking pig.

 
I've noticed on my computer that games are considerably slower when I have the second monitor active. I have a Radeon 9600 pro with dual outputs.

thats odd. there no noticable diff on my TI4600 or Matrox G550

but ive been running dual for over a year now so if anything happened i missed it and im just used to it now
