recently tried to switch to geico to save 15% or more in 15 minutes and they discovered that i had an accident 3 years ago.
i was not at fault in that accident but apparently it's still on my record and keeping me from getting good rates.

what do i have to do to get that corrected?

yeah, i was wondering if they would do it for me since it was so long ago.
and if they would request a police report or something. ugh...

If you can prove that it wasn't your fault, (your insurance agent should be able to help) then that accident shouldn't count against you. It'll still be on your driving record, but in MOST states, should drop off after 3 years.
