I'm trying to get the stereo out & it don't seem to want to come? Anyone have any ideas on how to get it open? Anyone done it before?

I'm not sure about your model, but my '95 Grand Marquis has 4 small holes in the face of the radio at the outside edge. There is a special tool made but I just bent a couple of pieces of coat hanger. Make a U shape and push the ends into the holes. This releases what holds the radio in. Gently wobble it back and forth and it should just slide out.

I had a 98 Contour and replaced the CRAPPY stock unit with a Blaupunkt that I bought at Crutchfield. They supplied a tool that fit inside the holes on the left and right of the head unit. Push the tool in and pull the unit out.

The coat hanger trick should probably work.

I just installed a JVC head unit today. I was really afraid the stock speakers would not be up to the task. SURPRISED I was.....100% improvement! Good luck!

Hell Yeah! I almost tried the sledgehammer trick, but finally got it out after prying one side out enough with a screwdriver to see where the clips were and getting the coat hangers in the right place.

Thanks guys :)

Be very gentle when removing those stereos. It is very easy to bend one of the clips the wrong way. If that happens you'll have to remove the glove box and a bunch of other stuff to get to the clip to bend it back.

Tom: Grand Marquis stock speakers are very nice (as far as stock speakers go).

Yeah, I saw those holes & played with them. The trick ended up being just pulling really hard on the surrounding dash piece. It's all put back together now & works great.
