Flying out to hawaii tomorrow for some fun in the sun...

I got the US Airways Master card with an $89 annual fee. After you pay the fee and make one charge on the account, you will get 50K bonus files which is enough for a round trip to Hawaii. It cost me $60 to use the miles so $150 total....

You also get zone 2 boarding on US Airways flights (zone 1 on American when the programs merge soon) and one free checked bag...

wow that is pretty crazy. so few questions...

how much cash is that 50k of points worth? like how much would your flight have cost? was it enough for you and someone else, or just you?

and why did it cost $60 to "use" the miles?

just wondering because i've already gotten the southwest card for me and my wife, and we used those flights to trips to florida and vegas, and still have enough for another trip to florida. it would be nice to have more points just for getting a new card like that.

My friends booked their flight in January (from Dallas) and they paid about $800 each...the 50K miles was for just for me and it takes 45K miles for my round trip.

The $60 was the fee US Airways charged to cash in the miles...

Since I am in Dallas, I typically fly American for work and play, so the Zone 1 boarding and one free checked bagged is just icing for me...

You can click on that link I provided..it explains all of the benefits...

AA and US Airways should be merging their frequent flyer programs soon so I am not sure how much longer that offer will be available...

I already got an email stating they were replacing the US Airways Barclays Mastercard I got with a Citi AA Advantage Red card in the next few months...

Also, you get two buddy passes for one trip so you can take two friends along for $99 each and a one day Admiral's club pass...

Edit: The buddy passes only work for the 48 contiguous states so it won't work for Hawaii 🙁

wow, not bad!

is your flight from DFW to somewhere in CA, then to HI?

i am in the midwest so it might take more points for me... i will definitely check though, thanks!

LAX on the way there and PHX on the way back....

You can check how many miles it would be using this:

In any event, you should be able to get to Hawaii and back in under 50K miles...will probably have to fly on a week day though but for $160, I didn't complain.
