How do I fix my PS3 online disconnects?

I need help with my wireless disconnect problem. I live in a house (renting a room) and they use a D-Link wireless router for internet. I have tried using the PS3's wireless connection and even tried using a wired connection to my laptop which receives wireless, but I keep having disconnect issues. I was playing nba 2k9 online with a friend and I got kicked from a game at least two times. I really don't know what to do. Is there any solution to making my wireless work fluidly for the PS3? I don't know if I can hardwire anything since the internet connections are not mine, but the owner of the house and his nephew's.

I am curious to know if a wireless gaming router or some wireless access point would better things?

That sounds like normal wireless interference and performance, it's flaky. Only thing you can do is change channels on the router and try to eliminate or move any devices that operate in the same frequency like phones, bluetooth, microwaves, etc.
