How do I fix my fever?

First day of school today and I had to go home early because I didnt feel good. My body temperature is a little over 39.8C (103.64F) and I have a small sore throat and heavy head. The worst part is the chills I am feeling. I did some googling and got mixed results on the best way to treat the fever ASAP. I am drinking alot of water and I am also huddled in a thick blanket. It feels much better when I am warmed up, but some google results say I need to let me body cool down. So should I keep my body warm (enzymes work fast this way?), or let it cool down and suffer the chills?

IANAD. All my advice is from mom.
Keep monitoring your temp and drinking fluids. If your core body temp starts to reach 103 F (39.4444 C) then begin to cool yourself down in a cool bath (not cold enough to cause hypothermia). Core body temp is best done rectally, however armpit works well too.

Keep drinking fluids. The more your body temp rises, the more fluids you lose. And take tylenol (or another asprin, yes real asprin), it's an anti-pyretic and will help lower your fever. Other than that, just let it run its course.

i always wondered why people want to get rid of a fever, after all it is the bodies natural defense. if the fever is so high that it becomes dangerous its another story of course.

With that temp, go to the doctor or try to cool yourself like KB mentioned. Your temp is starting to get dangerously high.

103 is my breaking point. Anything under that I just ride it out and let it do it's job. Once it hits 103 I take a fever reducer and monitor my temp frequently.

At least call your doctor and get a recommendation over the phone.

106 Fahrenheit is considered an immediate medical emergency. Anything over 103 Fahrenheit should be looked at by a doctor.

You are having chills because your body is trying to set your temperature even higher. A fever occurs when the body changes it's thermoregulation point to a higher value than normal. You feel cold because the body is now below the new thermoregulation point and your body is trying to warm itself to reach the new set point.

dealing with a fever is one thing but when you're in the 103+ range, I'd strongly recommend seeing someone.

Unless the fever reaches a dangerous level, (103-104) just let it run its course. THe poit of a fever is it's fighting off some sort of infection or virus. If you take tylenol or something to lower your temperature, you will feel better but your body will stop fighting off the virus as best it can.

Dress warmly and snuggle up unless you start to get very high.

You can take tylenol/acetaminophen and advil/ibuprofin "together" they both work to reduce fever but you can't overdose by taking both since they are a different drug and work on the fever on different ways. This was recommended to me by my kids doctor when he had a 104F fever. Take the tylenol and then 30 min later the ibuprofen. Has worked every time my kid had a high fever.

The doctor has always said 105F is the ER temp. anything below is ok but if they get that high get in to the doctor ASAP.
