Long story short, my computer has been a real bitch lately, and in the processes of ghostin the image back on teh HD, ghost crashed and my boot sector is now fvcked. How can I repair it so that I can boot? I keep getting some bullshit message that NTLDR is missing...

telling us which OS would help a bit! anyway...

boot from the CD and go to repair console

FIXBOOT

FIXMBR

that should take care of it

Well uhm...if Ghost crashed...how'd the image get finished so that you can boot at all? The boot sector isn't damaged, the partition is either not there, or some of the files are corrupted.

Wipe the hard drive and start over.

Boot off of a Windows 98 disk and type fdisk /mbr

That will give you a Windows 98 boot record.

Then go from there.

Its with Win XP. I was able to restart the ghost and get an image ghosted back to the HD, but I get those same damn errors. I have an 80 GB hard drive that has 5 partitions. I dont want to wipe the entire drive as I have a lot of important data on the other partitions.

How can I go about fixing the problem without ruining the other partitions?

If I run fixboot or fixmbr will my other partitions on my 80GB hard drive get wiped out?

It doesn't affect the partition table, it just rebuilds the master boot record so that Windows partitions become bootable again. You did set the partition Active when you copied it over, right?

Well XP is now happily installing and it booted off the HD to finish the installation, so it looks like I might escape! :D
