How do I find out if I can contest this parking ticket or schedule a hearing via mail?

I live in rochester, ny. Don't have time to goto the courthouse and sit all day. Anyone know if I can at least schedule a hearing over the mail or phone? Thanks. No time to get away from all the classes.

Nope, you have to call the court and inform them you are going to contest the ticket. They'll tell you then when court is going to be in session and when you can make your case. Then on that day you show up at court and wait for a couple hours until it is your turn to present your case to the judge. Unless you have pictures and a good defense prepared you're not going to win. I'm pretty sure the ticketing officer doesn't even have to be in court if it's a parking ticket.

in nyc, you can mail the ticket back and check the "not guilty" plea and then await for a hearing. or you could always just show up to the traffic courts and wait a bit for a hearing. dont know if its the same/available in rochester.

How much is the ticket?

Unless you have a $300 parking ticket, don't even bother going to court.

Appeal by mail unless your time is worth nothing.

Yea. How do I appeal or know if I can appeal by mail?

Read the ticket.

In my town, the procedure is you include a check for the full amount and send in along with a written explanation, documentation, photographs, and etc. The decision of Circuit Court is final and you waive your right to appearance by doing this.

You should direct the specific, local questions to Rochester Circuit Court.
