how do i find if someone's hacking my network?

apparently, i've had about 20 attacks on various ports on my network. how do i find out if they succeeded?

Generally, if they succeed, you don't see them. :p

yes, i know that. that's why i want to see if i can get a port sniffer on my computer to see what ports are in use.

i just tried. i cant figure out how to get to the snort directory... in fact, i cant figure out where the installer file is to run so that i can install it and start running it.

you could always ask the person attacking those ports if he's hacking. If he says yes, he prolly is.

Use a good router. It's almost impossible to hack through a good router assuming people aren't actively targetting you and even then it's really hard.

he's using an proxy. the ports arent getting a consistent attack source.
