How do I file a police report?

I think you need to go in person to do it. At least that's how it is in NYC. A friend from out of town had something stolen from his car, but didn't notice until he was out of town... so he and I found out the hard way (I went to the station, and was told that my friend had to do it in person).

You're right, a man is not a man if he hits a woman. Send the cops after him.

Sorry you got hit. I'm sure you weren't totally clueless that he is a loose canon. Yet, you let him spend the night...you didn't ask for it, but you did. Got it? Yep, you did. You know, not to detract from your story(sucks that it happened and you should file a report), but I strongly disagree with the whole "a man should never hit a woman thing." Women are full of contradictions these days. They don't want you to open the door for them, they want equal pay, they want you to treat them exactly like a man, but then they think they can attack you and not get hit back. If someone(regardless of sex) hits me, and I need to defend myself I will. Now if you mean no one should ever hit another person in a domestic violence situation then I agree. It seems like it's pretty pointless to just say guys should never hit women if the woman hits them first. I hate wife-beaters, but there have been plenty of spousal abuse cases from the other side.

Nail him to the wall, but rethink your ideas regarding self-defense. Good luck.

Exactly Mill. I've had a couple women/girls start to make that move and decide it's best not to cross that line.

Hitting a girl is a no no. Unless she's attacking you with a weapon or something, and even then I don't think you should hit them. Just restrain them.

You'd be surprised. My 15 year old cousin packs a wallop. I hit her back, though. It looked worse than I'd expected.

Just got off the phone with them... they told me to contact the local police and have someone come over to take pictures, if possible. When I return to LA, I can file a report at the local station.

To those commenting on the "a man should never hit a woman" idea - I believe that NEITHER sex should abuse the other (domestic violence = domestic violence, regardless of whether it's instigated/perpetuated by the male/female).

However, when I first slapped him, it was out of a) fear, and b) hope he would regain his senses. You weren't there to see the look in his eyes. I'd never been so terrified in my life of the look in someone's eyes. I knew it wouldn't seriously injure him, and hurting him was not my intention.

When he hit me, he knew he was going to hurt me. He's much bigger, much stronger, and even if I wanted to, I couldn't have hurt him if I'd tried. In between his "I love you"'s, "I'm so sorry I didn't meant to do that"'s and "We'll get through this together"'s, he mentioned "I only hit you in self-defense." Bvllsh!t. If you're at a bar and a girl slaps you for calling her a nasty name, do you wind back and sock her in the chest/face? I guess every situation is different and subjective, but that's how I view what happened to me this morning.

The bolded section is true and I agree 100%. However (there's always a however)...

Many (NOT all) women will take advantage of you when they know that you will not hit back. Unfortunately, in today's society, your GF/Wife could take an aluminum softball bat and go to town on your ass. When you rip that bat from her hands causing a bruise to her palm, you will be arrested for assault and she will recieve a Terrycloth robe and a gift basket from Bath & Body Works for her "heroic deeds."

Not saying she did, but Dezign said nothing about the argument/scene leading up to her getting slugged. Possibly she smacked him first? Notice, I said "possibly."

I have been beat on by women in my time. It is DEGRADING. I have defended myself and paid the price. I will not stay in a relationship w/a woman that gets physical.
