How do I enclose a 2.5" hdd in an external case?

Do I still need one of those wide cords (like a tape worm) that connects from the hdd to something else? I left that in the computer?

Right now it seems like the long prongs coming out of the hdd don't fit into the narrower strip of female slots on the case...

If you bought a 3.5" enclosure instead of a 2.5" one, you also need a 2.5-to-3.5 adapter kit, to convert the pins to IDE 40pin and add a desktop power connector. Like I told you in this thread

If that isn't the problem, post a link to the one you did buy, the pictures might tell us something.

For some reason I thought the 2.5 case wouldn't need an adapter kit since it was just for 2.5. :-/

The 2.5" case should not need an adapter, only the 3.5" case.

Which one did you buy?

Hmm, and the pins don't match? You might have left on a connector from the laptop itself that isn't part of the drive.

No the pins don't match. But the picture is different than mine. I can't tell the where the hdd is connecting from the picture.

I might have forgotten the connector, but does it look like the tape worm thing from desktops or is it something different?

Right now the edge of my hdd has two rows of long prongs that go for the whole width of the hdd.

Here, this article has pictures of what the back of your drive should look like if you've removed any extra connector from the laptop.

From the Bytecc review I linked to, the drive should snap into place without needing a ribbon cable.

Okay. It works. What threw me off was that there are mor prongs than there are female receptors. It fits though. The review you pointed out though freaked me out because it says it can't transfer files over 200mb at the end. I'll have to test that right now.
