How do I enable the Console in Counter-Strike?

I have Half-Life, and have enabled the console for that, but I can't bring up the console when in game during Counter-Strike.


How can I change my name?!

create a shortcut for counterstrike, then right click on it, select properties, and in the target text, put quotation marks around what is there, then add on a -console to the end... also you can probabaly add a -noipx and a -nojoy if you aren't using netware or a joystick (saves a bit o' memory).

to change your name, click Internet Games, then Customize

i forget the console command for it...

I had the same question, thx. But... how do you enable console if you use Gamespy to locate games. Gamespy goes right to the .exe so creating a shortcut with command line won't do it.

can't help ya there, don't use gamespy... maybe check out gamespy's webpage? or counter-strike.net?

In gamespy you just click on the "Gamespy" tab at the top and click on "Games and Filters" Scroll down to Half-Life and you will see the command line setting. There you would add
-console


BTW you do not need to put qoutation marks around the Target entry in a shortcut.

The console command to change your name would be
name xxxxxxx

Note you can only change your name when you are alive. Changing name in the console when dead has no effect.
