I enable 8xaa in the control panel in HL2 or BF2 and it always crashes, yet others seem to have no trouble doing this... what am I doing wrong?

What AA setting should be used in the game's settings??

If you like high resolution gaming(aka over 1280x1024) 2xQ works excellent and has almost no performance hit. Quincunx does not blur when you have the resolution over junk, it basicly looks like 4xS but only has the performance impact of plain ugly 2x AA. It works really well on fences and such. Ether its the resolution or its changed from way back when because I remeber it looked like junk on the Geforce 4 ti.

I can run 8AA, but like most people I can't stand the FPS hit and turn it off before long, so if it crashes on my system I don't play with it on long enough to freeze.

How do you set these though? In both HL2 and BF2 if I set these in the control panel, they crash the games...

You should not be crashing in your games by messing with anything under the controll panel short of "clock frequencys".

But anyhoo how it works is you go to "performance & quality" (Make sure "View" is under Advanced settings) Set your defualt AA setting (2x, 2xQ, 4x, 8xS) then you turn on tranperency AA by scrolling down in the same mini window to "Transperency Antialiasing" (your choices are Off, Mutisampling and Supersampling in order of performance hit). Also dont touch the ingame settings after setting AA in the nvidia controll panel, this will somtimes cause the driver to conflict if the game trys to wrestle AA settings from what you set it to(Most games only have 2x or 4X as choices). If the game still crashes under any of these settings I would recommend reinstalling your drivers, preferably to 79xx and not the buggy 80xx drivers. Hope this helps.

I do just that and both HL2 and Battlefield 2 either corrupt or crash, whether its 2Q or 8x... have you tried it on these two games in particular?

Just did, no crashes. Current drivers are 78.01. I havent tried them with any of the 80xx drivers because they were giving me other problems which caused me to roll back. Try lowering your clocks on the memory, the memory sometimes causes wierd corruptions or hiccup loop crashes when i set my memery over 1.27 ghz on the 80.xx drivers. Thats the main reason I hate 81.84-85 drivers (or whatever are recent) is because they made using HQ with AA a no-no on my 7800GTX if its running slightly over stock (anything over 1.2ghz). 78xxs seem indifferent to this and dont care about memory clocks (I can up clock memory till i get classic tearing)

Just can't get the damn thing to work. They either crash or show corruption, even at default clocks and Q as well as HQ... I wish it would... I'd love to be able to use 2Q

>_< Flush drivers I guess and if that doesnt work RMA the card. Thats insane and I wish I could think of something that would help.

Wow... I didn't realize it was even a problem... I've actually used about every driver there is on multiple clean installs and it's never worked.. I just thought it was some sort of lack of support in games.

Thanks for trying, I see you have the GTX too...

This works for you specifically in battlefield and half life 2?

You go into control panel, uncheck "Application controlled" for Antialiasing, switch it to 2Q or 8xS, and start the game and it works?

Damn card.
