How do I enable 3d on PS3 (Enable in XMB doesnt work)

So I already enabled 3D in PS3's menu, but it doesn't work. According to my research, some games you can enable it in the game's menu and some you gotta do it manually, but supposedly, ALL games support at least some level of 3D even if it doesn't look so good.

I tried several games.. Ridge Racer 7, Mortal Kombat and Demons Souls. I don't see a 3D setting in these games menu, so I tried doing it on my TV. This TV does PASSIVE 3d, and has two options, Horizontal and Vertical 3D. None of these options work. They just distort the image like crazy, and that's about it.

What am I doing wrong?


PS: The funny thing is that these two options that my TV has don't work for ANYTHING. I tried them in Blu-Ray movies, games, it never works... What gives?

Have a copy of GT5? Heard that was one of the best 3D games.

I don't understand what's there to 'setup and enable' 3d on the ps3. You just hookup ps3 to a 3d enabled tv , put in a 3d game or movie and you get 3d. There are no settings on ps3 for 3d such as sense of depth adjustment, pop out factor like there are on many standalone 3d blu-ray players. PS3 is set by default. So I don't know what 'setup' you are talking about.
As for 'enabling' 3d,I think there was a fw version quite a while back that would add 3d on older models (someone correct me on this part if i'm wrong). But regardless, with the new slims, you dont need any fw for 3d, they're 3d ready.

Are you sure you enabled 3D on the PS3? To my knowledge there is no strict toggle for enabling 3D on the PS3. You enable it by going through the display settings and the only way you know that it enabled 3D is if you have to choose your screen size. This will be the final display setting option.

Note that any non-HDMI 1.4 compliant devices between your PS3 and your TV may cause it to not recognize 3D capabilities.

Some games require you to enable 3D. For example, Super Stardust requires you to select 3D from a menu in the beginning and the entire game goes into 3D. I think God of War: Origins Collection requires you to enable it in the options menu and you choose the intensity using a slider bar.

Chances are if you don't see these options, you haven't enabled 3D on your PS3.

Not all games support 3D. Most of the games from the past year or so do support it, but it should state it clearly on the game box cover that it is 3D capable.

I don't think any of the games you listed are 3D.

For blu-rays you need a 3D blu-ray. These are not cheap and are not the same as a regular blu-ray.

Try a game like Super Stardust HD off of PSN. This game supports 3D for sure. Any 3D game will detect the 3D tv at start-up and either ask you if you want to enable 3D or allow you to enable it in the options.

Not all games support 3D.

This is correct. Most recent first-party games do support it, but not every game available on the system. From a quick Google search:

1. Turn on your PlayStation 3 and go into Settings -> System Update. Download the latest 3.530 update.
2. Go into Settings -> Display Settings -> Video Output Settings. Start a new search.
3. PS3 now tell you that your TV supports 1080p. Click again, and PlayStation 3 tell you that your TV supports 3D. Adjust the size of the TV.

It's been a while since I've had to do this, but that sounds right. Once your PS3 recognizes your TV is 3D capable, you'll have to manually enable 3D within each game. Some prompt you up-front, others you have to menu-dive to get to the option.

I was actually rather astonished to see The Immortals' 3D Blu-Ray for only $2 more in Target the other day. Normally, you can get a standard Blu-Ray for only $25 (or less) and the 3D copy is almost always $35. It's rather ridiculous.

Given the quality of the 3D in most movies I would think that the 3D versions would be like half price or less.

lately i've seen CHEAP blu rays as in under $10. not the latest movies, but decent stuff. dark knight was $7.99 for a while. maybe still is

I can tell you that is definitely not true. At least in my experience, any game that supports 3D will say so on the box.

I will try to obtain a game that definitely supports 3d and try that.

You have one... the latest Mortal Kombat game supports 3D.

Possibly depends on the TV's implementation of 3D. I only have two options... to turn 3D on and off and to reverse picture presentation. The latter option is necessary because some glasses will block out the right eye first instead of the left (active 3D not passive like your TV).

Uncharted 3, MLB 12: The Show, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Gran Turismo 5, Batman: Arkham City, Crysis 2, Ico & Shadow of Colossus, Resistance 3, Super Stardust HD, Wipeout HD, The Sly Collection, Killzone 3.

These I know for sure have 3D support as the box either lists it clearly on the front or the digital download is in the 3D section of PSN.
