How do i downscale resolutions on a LCD without having then strechted?

I know NVIDIA cards allow you to downscale say,a 1680x1050 LCD and put in down to 1280x800 without having the image strechted?

There's a setting under the monitor section ("Digital Panel Properties") in the Catalyst Control Center for image scaling. You can scale fully, scale to maintain aspect ratio, and not scale at all (you need relatively new drivers for this; older ones didn't do scaling too well).

I have Catalyst 8.2 if i'm not mistaken,will those work?

This option is new for 8.3 IIRC.

Well,i guess i DO have 8.3 after all,since i can scale down to 1440x900 and even 1360x768 and not get it stretched,though for some reason it doesn't work with 1280x768

Why would anything get stretched when switching from a 16:10 res to another 16:10 res? Anyway, get cat 8.3 for the new settings and also check if your monitor menu has any settings to control AR.

Tell that to me when you've played your games @ 1280x800 or even @ 1440x900 on a 1680x1050 LCD.

What do you mean? Maybe you should install cat 8.3 like you have been told twice in this thread and then tell us about your games.

I mean playing at 1280x800 WITHOUT fixing the image scaling,i don't know how else to explain it to you.

Some resolutions on my monitor fill the entire screen regardless of what I have set in the CCC, but 1280x768 does work as it should. If you have not already switched to "Use Centered timings", then I recommend you try that. On my setup, it is found on the "DTV (DVI) 4" menu which is on the Graphics Settings tab. If you running an analog setup, it might be called VGA or D-Sub. I also enabled GPU scaling, though I am not sure if it makes any difference. If that doesn't work, then you can try one more thing. Go to the "Displays Manager" also found on the "Graphics Settings" set the "desktop area" to your desired resolution.
