how do i display ie icon on desktop in winxp?

PowerToys for XP will do it. MS is not offering powertoys at the moment, says their working on a new version. Do a search on the web, it should be out there somewhere.

COME ON. i realize that if you honestly dont know how to do something, then you need to ask, but i mean, have you ever looked around? this is such a ridiculously basic thing. right click > new > shortcut, *not hard*. try experimenting and looking around, geez.

I think that what you want is obtained by going into the Internet Options window selecting Advanced
and checking the "Show Internet Explorer on the desktop"!! To access the Internet Options window
either use the control panel or select Tools/Internet Options from inside IE!!

Cool isn't it, this shorcut is different from the normal shortcut because a right click/properties on this one will give
the Internet Options Window!

And yes this is a very basic question....

In traditional Microsoftian way, there are more ways to do this than one. Right click on your desktop, choose the "Desktop" tab of "Display Properties," click on the "Customize Desktop" button, and check the box next to "Internet Explorer."
And yes, this is a basic question, but it's only basic to those of us who have been using Windows for a while. Besides, doing the rightclick > new > shortcut method will not give you a fully functional IE icon. Using either the method that thornc proposed, or my method, will produce an icon that is right-clickable to get the internet properties dialog, among other things.

as a side note, i believe power toys is out .. i think we sell it where I work .. eh but i could be wrong, i avoid the sales floor like the plague heh ..
