How do I stop AOL Instant Messenger from automatically signing on every time I go to check my e-mail? I know I figured this out before, but I can't remember...

AOL Messenger starts everytime you check your email using OE? I don't use AIM, but maybe you're thinking of Windows Messenger instead?

Nope. It's AIM. that's the only one I use at the moment.

I believe it'll use whatever you have set as the default messenger.

I've heard of renaming aim.exe to something else to stop it from starting up, but that's not really a viable fix in my eyes.

Ahh, I didn't know that not being a AIM user, but that makes sense. I know it's possible to disable the default Windows Messenger from loading when OE is started. Wonder if doing that would prevent AIM from loading?

nope. much simpler than that - I just figured it out :) It's an option in OE, rather than AIM: Tools-->options, and on the General there's a check box for automatically signing in to AIM.
