How do I disable the built-in firewall in XP????

My friends comp was just loaded with WinXP the other day, and I heard that you can't play Counter-strike until you disable the built-in firewall that WinXP provides. Could someone give me that path in windows that I'm supposed to take?

And also, If I buy my own firewall, do I have to disable that everytime I play Counter-strike or not?

krazykilroy,

I have the same OS, and I play CS almost everyday. I have not had to disable anything in order to play. Have you tried playing?

built in firewall in Xp Pro? I dont think thats true. correct my if I am wrong.

Just like insane I had no problems connecting to servers. Even after I installed my home network on a linksys router (which provides firewall) I have yet experienced a problem connecting to cs servers. The only problem was people couldnt connect to me when I set up my dedicated server. I had to forward the ports 27010-27020.

There is a built-in firewall for XP, but you have to turn it on first.
It isn't turned on by default. You can check it by going to your network connections.
If there is a little lock beside his internet connection, than he has it on. You can
turn it off by right clicking and going to the properties. There's a check or switch in there
that you can turn it off.

I'd recommend Tiny Personal Firewall. You can have it permit the connection if you
click an option to create a rule for that specific port and action. ZoneAlarm can do
the same thing.

usually the firewall is unchecked as default.
if I remember correctly, it can be found under the properties of the dialup settings!
