yup, the newest one (6.66) but i didnt install the IDE driver (per the opinion of most users that it cuases errors)

I've been using the NVIDIA SW driver for a few years now and never had a problem on any of my (100+) builds.

So should i reinstall the Nvidia Nforce 4 driver (6.66) and this time include the IDE driver?

Not if you don't want NCQ...there's no need to.

well i dont want NCQ

so if i leave the IDE driver uninstalled, will NCQ automatically be disabled (since the driver isnt there)?

I don't think you'll notice anything from having NCQ enabled anyways though, maybe 1-3% in very specific situations, which is nothing really.

Also, I'm not sure if having the nForce IDE driver off is such a great thing, note I do a lot of video work, so I use my hard drives heavily... over 2TB written and deleted a week, and I use the 6.66 IDE drivers and NCQ, never had any issues at all...

Ok, i installed the IDE driver and disabled NCQ, but now my HDD sounds twice as loud, and a lot more annoying (before i could barley hear it when it was opening files, now it sounds like a vibrator is inside my case)

whats the deal with that?

also, why is there a "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in my system tray (just started when i installed the new IDE driver)???

The Safely Remove Hardware is the hot-swap feature of many SATA hard drives. If you safely remove it, you can unplug it and plug in another one, etc. It's more meant for quick mount HDD racks, where you can slide in and out hard drives easily in server setups.

any idea why the noise is more?

Are you absolutely positive it is, or are you imagining it?

I can't think of a reason why it would happen though... never happened to me.

Are you sure the vibrations aren't coming from your optical drives? Those are more likely to vibrate the case than any hard drive.

no, its coming from the Hard drive

i dont know, i know im not imagining it
maybe its because i moved it up a slot on my HDD rack, either way its a little more noticeable
