Hello,

I'm trying to install an ATI All in Wonder PCI Video Card into my compaq Presario 7588, but it won't install. The problem is that I need to disable my onboard video card. It is an Intel (r) 810e Chipset video driver. I have tried disabling it in the device manager, but anytime I reboot, it is reactivated. I was told that I have to disable it on the motherboard, is this true? In order for my ATI card to work, I need this disable completely. btw, I can get a Voodoo3 to work, but the ATI just brings up a black screen.

Thanks

Usually if you put in another graphics card into the AGP or PCI expansion slot, BIOS automatically recognizes it and turns off the onbaord VGA. Some manufacturer's make you do it manually through CMOS. Just go to the BIOS and turn it off in the menu. Save. Place in the new graphics card and let the good times roll... i guess.

In your case... well maybe there is an ONBOARD jumper where you have to change manually.

another hint... if the case in NOT too propietory... SAVE the case and place a nice P4 or Athlon afterwards.. those damn compaq cases are cool.

You can disable the onboard vid card thru the bios. I forget how exactly with the Compaqs, it's probably one of the function keys (F10?) during the bootup when you see the Compaq logo.

got some bad news for youse... I had a presario and after a month with the compaq reps we decided...OH YEAH!!! You cant do that with this board.. It's proprietary and cant be upgraded.. It will always conflict... check it out and see if it aint so.. hope not but I got suspicions

The board's BIOS should automatically leave the 810 VGA disabled when you plug another in, or at least allow you
to choose the PCI VGA as the primary display and then run multi-head later. If it doesn't, then this means either your
card's or your mainboard's BIOS aren't multi display capable.
