My car is a 1984 Ford LTD 3.8L 2 barrel carb, I need to know this because in order to get a new catalytic converter, I will have to order in a different type depending on this.

Does you car have a distributor or a coil pack? If it has a distributor, non-EEC. Almost positive on that.

My 92 topaz has a distributor and it's EEC-IV.

EEC = Electronic Engine Control
(IV is for "4")

Does your car have a "diagnostic port"?
o2 sensor?

If it's carbed, I'm betting it's a non EEC vehicle. The V8 Mustangs didn't get EEC until '86 I think...

Why do that? Why think for yourself when you can sit on your lazy ass and demand ridiculously easy answers about your car from an online computer forum?

Just checked Autozone, and for 1984, they had a LTD, LTD Crown Victoria, and LTD Country Squire...all of them say they only came with V8's...5.0 (302) or 5.8 (351)...

Are you sure on the vehicle info? Did you mean the 5.8L?

Woot! I had a 92 Ford tempo up until Tuesday. Got it new in the fall of 92. Much to my surprise, it served me quite well for 12+ years.

You didn't do it right. They have one barrel carb 4 cyl, 2 barrel 6 cyl, and 4 barrel 8 cylinder in the selection.

I picked the:
" 1984 FORD LTD
6 Cylinders 232 C 3.8L 2BL"

they really put 6's in the LTDs? well anyway i've never seen one before(i think they stopped using them before i was born) but you could have a EEC-III system in there. they were in use around that time period.on second thought they may have just started using EEC-IV wich isn't a bad setup. look around the passenger side wheel well near the firewall. also check under the instrument cluster and all along the firewall. if theres a test connector there somewhere you know you've got a computer

Why? Well as you stated, because I don't want to do it myself... I do have a manual already but it is very vague and doesn't really tell me what I want to know so I thought I would use the off topic forum to see if anyone had some ideas. And hey, if its ridiculously easy to answer, why hasn't anyone been able to give me a correct one yet?:D
