My broadband took a lightening strike and killed the LAN port on my XP box. I installed a network card just to get it back up. I don't think I'll RMA it for a bad LAN port!! At the same time my other computer lost it's IP addresss assigned DHCP on the router. It defaulted to Windows IP address. My local computer shop will fix the registry keys for a modest $50. I think I can do it myself if I knew where to go in the registry and what keys to edit. Anyone??

Set to "obtain settings automatically"
command prompt: ipconfig /release_all
ipconfig /renew_all

If that does not work, you have other issues.

Try to assign manual IPs and get it to work.

Once it works switch it back to DHCP auto.

If the switch to auto kills it, than the damage is more than just the NIC.

I have 98 on an old computer for the kids to do homework, games and surf. My main rig is running XP.
