so i ran windows update on my friend's computer while my external HD was hooked up, and windows update stored all the temporary files onto it as it was running. however, during the update, something locked up and when i restarted, there were these temporary files on my external that i can't delete. how do i get rid of them? i've tried safe mode and no good.

copy to addressbar: http://www.iupload.net/042004/SNAG-0001.jpg

That link doesn't work; I see a "remote linking prohibited" gif. Edit: guess copying to address bar works in IE, not Opera. Another nuisance!

Your external is no longer connected to your friend's computer, but still has undeletable files?

the drive is in NTFS so it doesn't recognize in dos, and i've tried that method casetragedy posted and still doesn't work. hmm.

Try booting into safe mode (keep tapping the F8 key when Windows starts booting) and remove them that way.

I haven't tested this, but maybe Spybot S&D's "Shredder" tool could kill those files.

Open up Spybot in Advanced Mode. Click "Tools" and then "Secure Shredder".

I think you can either drag & drop or right click "Add...".
