if u have adobe acrobat, u can make a pdf. instead of printing to your printer u can print it to pdf

Ya, if you have Acrobat just print to "Acrobat Distiller." It will then prompt you for a location to save the file.

You can do this for free a certain number of times at Adobe's website - no need to download anything. I believe it's createpdf.adobe.com

YOu can also use OpenOffice - it can read Word files and save as PDF (though it sometimes screws up the formatting - their Word filters aren't perfect). Or, you can use Ghostview & Ghostscript to convert it to PDF (you print the Word file to a Postscript file, then use Ghostview to convert it to PDF)
