I've got a LINKSYS BEFSX41 and I'm not sure how I would go about configuring it so I can host multiplayer games. Can anyone help me out? Thanks,

I was told I have to have a static IP to host games. Can I host games if I have DHCP enabled? My ISP is AT&T Broadband

Yes the easiest way to do so would be to make your computer the DMZ host.

So would I just plug my cable coming from my ethernet card into the DMZ jack on the back of the router and then enable DMZ? Would this leave me with no firewall protection?

OK, I plugged my PC into the DMZ jack in the back of my router and enabled DMZ and I was able to host a UT2K3 game. However, I'm concerned that my PC isn't protected by my firewall with this enabled. Do I understand this correctly? Also, can I just leave my PC connected to the DMZ jack and whenever I'm not hosting a game disable DMZ??

Jackal&Cash,

Can you explain exactly how I forward port 7777? I'm a complete newbie when it comes to messing with this router. I don't know if I want to go the DMZ route if my firewall isn't protecting me. Thanks for the help!

Advance > Forwarding, under "Customized Applications: put any name u want > "Ext.Port" put 7777 - 7777 > check both TCP and UDP > "IP Address" put the ip that is going to be hosting the game > and check Enable. also put 7777 under port triggering (Trigger Port Range & Incoming Port Range).

The IP of the computer running the server. There should be an option in your router's config pages to view the IPs assigned to each computer. It should be under the DHCP tab and then DHCP Clients Table.

No. Port forwarding works just fine with DHCP. There may be another port that needs to forwarded, but I don't know since I dont play UT2K3.

If I click the "Help" tab under "Port Forwarding" it says "DHCP" has to be disabled for port forwarding to work. Also, do I enter the exact same ports in the "Port Triggering" section that I entered into the port forwarding section? Do I need to disable "Block WAN Requests" under the "Filters" tab? I've tried just about everything and can't get this working! :(

Hmm thats odd. My linksys router is currently a DHCP server and I have successfully forwarded ports to make my SetiQ server work.

Here's what I got from a search engine. Basically you need to open the port after it also. So try forwarding 7777 and 7778. You may also want to check this out.

http://www.planetunreal.com/TheAdminPage/linksys.htm

If your using 7777 as your server port then you will need to forward UDP 7777-7778 for netplay and server query.

Typically UT will use 7775-7776 for lan connections in addition to the other ports but you wont need to forward those ports for internet play.

If the port is different than default just make sure you forward the next port after it as well i.e. 7779-7780 for netplay and query.

Also forward 27900 and 27950 UDP and TCP, gamespy typically uses the 27900 and all seeing eye uses 27950 (i think), could be another master out there besides them that uses it though, I could be wrong. I once tried using just UDP for the master servers but could never get the server to show up until I opened the TCP ports.

OK, here's what I've got:

28900-28902 TCP and UPD.

7777-7787 UPD.

Block WAN Requests disabled.

I got the above ports from unrealtournament2003.com forum.

Anyway, I start a dedicated server, go into the game, click Play On-line, and then click the DM tab, my game shows up in the server list. I can click on it and join the game. However, I can't get anyone else to join. I don't know if this is because nobody wants to or because they can't. If it's showing up in the server list, shouldn't other people be able to join it?

>7777-7787 UPD

it's 7777-7778 not 87

also keep in mind that some ISP's may cut off your inbound server ports if they realize your running a server.

I was thinking it might have something to do with AT&T Broadband. However, if I enable DMZ I can host all the games I want so I don't think it's my ISP.
