How do I clean the interface material off the core of a T-bird?

I moved My 700 T-bird from a KT7 Raid board to an MSI Pro2-a board. When I removed the Taisol heat sing it broke the sealant material.

I have some Taisol grease but I want to clean the surfaces of the cpu core.

Is it OK to rub the top of the core with a solvent soaked rag while the CPU is mounted on the board? I guess I should ground myself with a wrist strap.

A dry cotton wipe is usually sufficient. Remember most consumer grade alcohol is 30% to 50% water. I would not use these grades on a cpu.

i've used rubbing alcohol in the past and its worked fine. But i'm no expert, but if your careful, everything should be fine.
