How do I clean my monitor screen?

I have some fingerprints on my new Sony G410R... how can I clean the screen without messing up the antireflective coating?

8 parts warm water

Scrub vigorously with steel wool.

Regardless of what all the ubergeeks will tell you to the contrary windex and a paper towel work just fine, you can also use an old T-shirt. I have been doing this for 10 years and have never had any problems with any of my monitors.

You don't have a problem because no anti-glare coating really doesn't reduce the performance of the monitor.

I used an old tshirt moistened with water.. but it left streaks . Oh well... they are only visible when the monitor is off.

yep, once you strip it all off it looks the same, except for more glare. but until you get it all stripped off its a mess.

I guess the tshirt isn't that absorbent because it dries with streaks.

You don't have a problem because no anti-glare coating really doesn't reduce the performance of the monitor.

That's a complete load of crap. I have never removed any coatings from any of my monitors and it never looked messed up in any way. The anti glare coatings have been in tact on every one of my monitors when I throw them out. You just don't leave the windex on ther too long. I have never had a streak one on any of them.....you guys must just be incompetent.

I guess the tshirt isn't that absorbent because it dries with streaks.

yeah they don't soak up much so you have to keep switching the part of the shirt you're using

I agree. I've used windex on monitor screens since I as about 8 years old and I've never had a single problem w/ anything.

Good answer.....you are just another moron spreading an old wive's tale. I'm staring right now at a 3 year old flatscreen 19 inch monitor that has the anti-glare coating in tact and I have wiped it with windex and a cloth every week since the day I brought it home. And the reason I know the coating is in tact is because it has alway had a little nick in the coating in the lower right corner.....still there and no streaks or mess on my screen so that damned coating must still be there....Idiot.

If you are worried about the coating get some glasses cleaner at a drug store. Look for one that says it's safe for all coatings.

I've seen morons do it all the time at lan parties, and they wonder why they get so much glare after. There's a reason why your manual does not recommend it.
