How do I check my xp installation for corrupt or missing files?

I was reading posts yesterday and saw a tip on how to check a windows installation for missing/corrupt files.
It had something to do with firing up the installation disc, stopping it, then running the test.
I can't for the life of me find the post again, and I think it may help the problem with my wife's computer. It's worth a try, I haven't been able to clean up the problem with her system hanging and she's in my ear about it 🙂
You'll be doing me a great service.

Thanks Ltech!
I ran the check and it did it's thing, although it splashed no report of any kind.
Did it simply overwrite existing files?
