How do I change my drive icons?

I'm trying to figure out how to change my drive icons. I'm referring to the ones when you go to My Computer on the desktop and see all your drives. BTW, I'm using XP Pro.

Go to My Computer and RIGHT CLICK on the icon you want to change. In the pop up menu is APPEARANCE. Click it - then select CUSTOM and drill to the icon you want to use.

I don't see Appearance there...

Appearence? yeah, I am not sure where that is? Where are you looking corky-g?

Any icon on the Desktop - right click, and in the second group down from the top is Appearance. Click on that and you get a choice of Standard or Custom. Select Custom and then browse for you desired icon. I do that regularly on all my systems. You may have to be in Classic mode. This is from the XP Help stuff:

<P class=proclabel><A name=display_change_desktop_items>To change the look of Window elements</A>

  1. <LI>Open <A id=shortcut title="" href="EXEC=,desk.cpl,,2 CHM=ntshared.chm FILE=alt_url_windows_component.htm"><IMG class=shortcut src="ms-its:c:\windows\help\ntshared.chm::/shortcutCold.gif"><SPAN class=space></SPAN>Display</A> in Control Panel.
    <LI>On the <B><FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #4c4ca2" color=#ffffff>Appearance</FONT></B> tab, click <B>Advanced</B>.
    <LI>In the <B>Item</B> list, click the element you want to change, such as <B>Window</B>, <B>Menu</B>, or <B>Scrollbar</B>, and then adjust the appropriate settings, such as color, <A id=wPopup title="View definition" href="HELP=glossary.hlp TOPIC=gls_font">font</A>, or font size.
    <LI>Click <B>OK</B> or <B>Apply</B> to save your changes.
<P class=note><IMG class=alert src="ms-its:c:\windows\help\ntshared.chm::/note.gif"> Notes

  • <LI><NOLOC>To open Display, click <B>Start</B>, point to <B>Settings</B>, click <B>Control Panel</B>, and then double-click <B>Display</B>.<SPAN class=anything id=display></SPAN></NOLOC>
    <LI>Your changes are saved until you make further changes or choose a different <A id=wPopup title="View definition" href="HELP=glossary.hlp TOPIC=theme">theme</A>.
    <LI>Changing the look of individual items is only useful if you select <B><NOLOC>Windows</NOLOC> Classic</B> in the <B>Windows and buttons</B> list on the <B><FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #4c4ca2" color=#ffffff>Appearance</FONT></B> tab. If you select a different option, the theme determines the <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #4c4ca2" color=#ffffff>appearance</FONT> of your menus, fonts, icons, and other Window elements.
    <LI>The <B>Font</B> area will be unavailable for elements in the <B>Item</B> list that do not display text.

Corky-g, I think you're talking about changing desktop icons, and what he wants to do is change them within 'My Computer'/Explorer. Is this what you're looking for? I didn't try it or anything, just found it searching google... let us know.

Right, Booty. Sorry about the mis-read. However - I do any icon including the drive icons with Microangelo.
