How do I bypass school filter?

Hi all, I am a senior in HS. My school blocks sites like myspace/facebook, weapon sites, etc.

I want to run an encrypted channel of data between my home proxy and school. I set-up FreeProxy on my WinXP server, it works as "elite" proxy, but there is no encryption, no user login/pass, etc - so I'm not sure it will let me browse myspace from school... - havent tested yet in school.
I tested my proxy with a proxy checker online, so I know proxy is accessible outside my router.

Thanks :)

Oh, and preferably - a way to do it so I don't install software on school PC, or at most run it from USB flashdisk.

thanks for letting me know that. (sorry I'm dumb, didn't guess that this is the forum how to create security, not bypass :( )

Most people in this forum are the ones who implement the very policies your trying to get around (myself included). I don't think so.

I'll just repeat what others have said. I set up a private school's proxy and filtering, and have looked at many of those purported "hacks" to get around it. Don't try it, you could lose your priveleges.

Running a public proxy that anyone can route through from a computer based in the U.S. is not a smart idea. Someone will eventually use it for something illegal and it could very easily become your problem.

Thanks for letting me know, LOFBenson.

Myspace wasnt my interest - it is just a scholastic thing, wow it works :) Not that I want to use myspace in school. (it worked, I tested today)

How do I make a proxy with a login and password?

pitting the proxy down for now.

MegaVovaN, I don't know about your school system. I know that the ones in my area have a lot of lawyers, a lot of overpaid administrators, a lot of meddling politicians, and not a lot of clues. I am guessing that they would treat a student caught bypassing their probably laughable security about as rationally as if they walked into school wearing a black trench-coat and army boots and toting a couple of violin cases.

But hey, if you can't wait a few hours to use web sites like myspace, go ahead and risk your future... but we're not going to help you do it, either.

Circumventing a security measure will get your in trouble. Any traffic you have at your school is probably logged and looked at regularly. There have been several people at my company who have lost their jobs over using proxies and bypassing other security measures.

There is a piece of software called LanSuite 602 which works very well. It is free for up to 5 users, e.g. 5 usernames. It handles a lot more than proxy, but I've found it's the easiest to set up out of all of them. Give it a port to run on and make it require a login/pass and you're good to go. Just make sure to give it a non-standard port so it isn't compromised. You'll also have to change the Internet Explorer cache settings on the computer it's installed on so that it refreshes the page every time, and set the cache size to 1 mb. This is in IE, not in LanSuite. For some reason it uses IE settings, dunno why.

Also, using a proxy is a simple solution, but only if nobody bothers to track the network data you get. If your School IT staff is halfway decent they'll find out, so only use this when absolutely necessary for legitimate reasons, not because you want to "stick it to the man" or anything dumb like that.

cmetz, bluestrobe: thanks for the warnings. By school I meant high school, not college/university. There are no lawyers, and couple admin dudes whom I say "hi" to when I see them in hallway :) I doubt anyone is watching the traffic, because a) ppl dont bring their notebooks - they use PCs from classrooms and b) kids browse random stuff during classes, and teachers don't really care...some PCs are not getting fixed, like one has simple NTLDR boot error and other needs a long cat5 cable and they wont let me fix NTLDR "because it's on warranty".

yukichigai: I guess I won't use proxy in school, thanks for info though.

bottom line,
__________
1. I am not dumb enough to go around restrictions when I'll got to college (I am gonna live at home anyway); and
2. There are no web sites I really want to browse in school, and there is little time (20 min @ lunch) to do it anyway

High school districts have overpaid/underworked lawyers too...

If you want to learn about it ask them if you can work in the department for a little while.

i was a senior in high school last year and..."had some fun" with the internet in my media arts class since i was always a week or more ahead and had nothing better to do. my school district uses novell, but it should work for anything, go to www.prank.org, click on computer pranks and search the first few pages, there should be a thread that explains how to open up command prompt through the schools safety programs and make an admin account yourself. warning: they will most likely catch you eventually. i didnt do that particular "hack", but my friend who sat next to me did, and he got caught after a few weeks. when you get caught, you will most likely be suspended if not recommended for expulsion. also, don't use a proxy site, my friend and i tested out tons of them and the it crew always found out within a few days. the best one we used was www.hidemyass.com, but even that was found out and blocked after about 2 weeks.

so if you want to try anything to get around a school program, there are plenty of ways out there, but you are almsot guarenteed to be busted, so good luck and have fun :)
