How Do I Boot A Linux Installation From A CD?

I installed Linux on my hard drive (Ubuntu).

However, grub doesn't seem to work. It just gives an error and then hangs.

The Live CD works fine though. Is there someway I can boot the linux installed on my hard drive from the live CD?

Generally you can change root=/dev/blah to point to the root on the disk and it'll boot, what's the error you get?

not sure with Ubuntu live CD, but grub fixes are easy with a gentoo minimal install (on gentoo, not sure if Ubuntu would be OK)
