how do I block my facebook from the public?

so on my current Facebook account, I have it where only friends and friends of friends can see my information. However, it seems like strangers can still look me up. If they go to the Facebook search, and type my name, my profile comes up for them to view. Although it is limited, I want my name to not even be on the search.

Privacy settings show only friends of friends, and on the "Ads, apps, and websites" settings, enable public search is unchecked.

I created a dummy facebook log in, and when I type my own name, I still show up.

Ohhhhhh no! Someone call the internet police!

I had an IT manager who actually thought there was such thing as internet police. he actually said "we need to call the internet police". Most hilarious thing ever. Imagine being in that meeting and having to force a straight face.

I'm pretty sure it's common to have two accounts though. Some people may have a friends/family account and a "professional" account. Especially with most employers asking for a Facebook password now.

Don't know off hand but that would be the opposite of making a social account so doubt you could do it.

What's the rolleyes about? I'm just stating the fact that most employers are asking for the Facebook password. At least in the US, I don't know about other countries. I have not heard of it happening here in Canada, but plenty of cases in the US. It's considered standard now. If you just tell them you don't have Facebook they figure you are hiding something, since nearly everyone has a Facebook account whether they go on it a lot or not.

So with that said it does make sense to have two accounts.

There have been a few stories about it, but it is hardly standard. 🙄

Yet... You need to protect your rights while you still have them. It seems like the whole world is pushing for a complete facebook identity. It's even turning up for government stuff. The world can go fuck itself. It'll be a cold day in hell before I have anything to with facebook, or any other centralized data mining operation.

I don't know what setting it is. But I can't even look up my own FB from another account when using a direct url. I think it can only be viewed by friends of friends at most. Unsearchable as well.

It's been a good amount of time since I noticed that. Maybe things have changed, with how much they've butchered their privacy settings.

Doesn't matter, because Facebook reads all your info, including your private messages and sell all of it anyways. So, Facebook away.

Oh yea. I've been making all my music spam stuff public.

There's sites like Diaspora if you want more private stuff. But it's a dead zone.

There's a setting to enable/disable appearing in search. Even amongst friends of friends.

There's also so many people with the same name. I think I just skimmed through at least 100ish, didn't see myself.

I sure hope I'm not mistaken for this guy though:
