How do I backup my emails in Outlook Express? I want to reformat my hard drive and reinstall Windows. Where are the email files stored. I can't seem to find them. Thanks.

go to file -> inport/export, then let the wizard take it from there. just back up the export file outlook makes.

You cant export to a file in OE.
What you need to do is (depending if you use profiles or not) look for the files in C:\Windows\Application Data
If you have profiles then go to C:\Windows\profiles...
But you will see the files for each folder in OE.
The path is similar to below.

C:\Windows\Application Data\Identities\{2A9D3903-F4B1-11D4-8143-00B0D073E0CE}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Or..

You can import the emails with Outlook, then in Outlook export to a file.
Then if you reformat or whatever.. Import with Outlook from the file, then in OE import from Outlook.

Doing that will lose some of the properties in emails, like the date email was received.

Yes, Express Assistant 2000 works like no other. It's a fantastic product for "just such a thing." I use it everytime I format and clean re-install.

Everyone, thanks for the help. I'll try out all the methods suggested and see which one works the best.

ha ha you freaks this is the first post where i see about 4 different ways to do the same thing.
