Hi,

One day, my WinXP PC crash and cannot be booted up because of C:\windows\system32\config\system is corrupted. It seems there is no way to recover that file. So, I re-install WinXP again. However, after the re-installation, I cannot access my old "Documents and Settings" directory. I guess it is because WinXP thinks that directory is under different UserID. I really need my old files to be restored. Can anyone help me?

drive letter:\Documents and Settings.

If not, it may be lost. Did you format the drive while installing winXP again?

It could be a permissions problem. Make sure you're logged in as a user with Administrative priveleges and give yourself ownership and full access permissions to the folder.

I renamed my old "Documents and Settings" directory to some other name in WinXP Home Edition. After I re-install, I cannot access that old, renamed Documents and Settings directory. I tried to look if there is any thing I can turn on to acesss the files but I cannot find any.

I had this problem a long time ago. Someone here on the AT forums told me how to enable permission, and I was able to access the folder. It is fixable, but I don't remember how.

Anyone?
