How do ghost detectors work?

These so called "ghost hunters" believe that small changes in the electromagnetic field, or changes in temperature are always evidence of a ghost. These are everyday scientific tools (although cheap, inaccurate versions of the real thing) being used for pseudoscience.

First you send them your money, and then they send you some detectors that don't detect ghosts. That's how it works.

right, but the IR thermometer is pretty cool even if you aren't hunting ghosts. I can't imaging what a guass meter would be useful for, but it'd be fun to have. Maybe that's just the engineer in my talking, though.
