How do deaf and speech challenged people meet bf/gf?

I have a serious question, so please do not make jokes at it or mock it.

How do deaf and dumb people make boy friends and girl friends?

I have read a lot of threads on this forum about having problems interacting with the opposite sex and all that. Which makes me think how these people must feel. I mean, lets say that a girl who is deaf sees a guy she just can't keep her eyes off of. Well there really isn't much she can do right, unless the guy know sign language and is actually open minded enought to talk to her. It must be very painful.

Also, do kids of such people also share these disabilities?

I don't know if these disablilitse are genetic, but I do know there are families that share them.

Many people with such disabilities go to a school designed especially to meet their needs, so if someone sees someone else in school that they like, they should have no trouble communicating.

There are many ways of communication, lip reading, writing, gesturing, etc. Speech is by no means the sole way to communicate. Even a look can convey a whole world of meaning. Though it'd probably be difficult at first, I'm sure that, for example, a deaf and a non-deaf person would be able to understand each other.

As for calling them deaf and dumb, maybe I'm reading you wrong, but deaf people are not dumb. They have the same potential for mental capacity as anyone does, and it's an insult to call them dumb.

I am sorry, but I thought dumb meant people who could not speak. Is there a better word for them? I will edit the post when I know of it. Thank you for telling me, I did not mean anything bad.

Interestingly...i've known a lot of people who can't speak to use computers to communicate...and as such have found relationships that have been quite fulfilling for themselves over the internet. Whether as to how far it goes from there really is about how committed you are to the relationship.
