How do countries like England support their military??

It's not like there's a big English Empire anymore, it's just one small island about the size of texas, if that...so how do they support such a large military? For that matter how do countries like Spain do it either?

No 200$ toilet seats?

LOL if you think the European governments are so great, move there. The 15-20% unemployment rate deters me.

They should make "Ye Olde Town Drunk" an occupation, then that rate would drop a few points.

The UK has 60 million people. Not tiny.

It also has a military that just by guessing would be an even smaller proportion of the population than the USA. Its spending is undoubtedly massively smaller per capita than the USA.

They are not SO tiny... they have tens of millions of people. Also we have 12 full carrier battle groups, England has about 2 small ones. That's about proportional actually.

Never said they were great, but is it such a leap of logic to assume that on a smaller budget they manage there finances better?

U.S. hit 72 million back in 1898. Just sayin'.

Are you a history professor at an obscure liberal arts college or are you just trolling?

US spends 4.06% per capita on its military
UK - 2.4%

UK - 190,000 troops
US - 1.9 million

Population of US vs UK is about 5:1

US has a proportionately much much muuuch larger military

The US has an excellent military industrial complex. . .

The US requires war to generate money for the country.

Ignore, or don't. . . but it's true.

The UK doesn't HAVE to go and bomb the ****** out of people to generate an increase in their GDP.

shoddy business practices scamming people out of millions/billions don't help the economy either (enron, etc.)

Umm. They fought off the entire German Air Force by themselves, fool. And, if you REALLY think about it, the Russians could have beaten the entire German army on their own.

Germany only had about 30% of her army on the Western Front. Everything else was against the Russians.
