At work, they have a subscription to Netg, an online school. One of the classes available is A+, so I'm wondering if it's worthwhile to take it and if that allows me to say that I am A+ certified.

If they are paying for it you might as well do it. It won't get you a job really but it can't hurt you.

I notice a lot of computer tech jobs now require it. I guess since the unemployment rate is so high, they need something to base their hiring criteria on, certificates, experience, etc.

Nothing still beats experience, but its good to have certificates under your belts these days.

Not in all cases.....friend of mine and I both applied for a Help Desk position with our company (internal ap). He has A+ and no experience. I have no A+, previous job was 3+ years of Help Desk support with some desktop support thrown in.........He starts the job next monday. I was told they decided on candidates with more technical experience.....

I have years of experience and just want something on paper. After completing the class, I should have a paper cert that says I passed the class...hope this works

The class is almost assuredly a PREPARATORY class for the A+ EXAM. To reiterate, completing the class would NOT make you A+ certified, merely help prepare you to take the test.

If the training is free, go for it.

If companies offer these "links" to courses, they should also note it on your record (automatically) if you select to take it. It's a nice way for your boss to see that you're trying to improve your skillset... without "bragging" to him about it.

If your question is how do you prove you're A+ certified, then yeah, there's an ID for you somewhere in COMPTIA's records.
