How difficult is it to change fans on the PAL8045 after the HS is installed on the CPU?

Hi,

I'm considering the Alpha 8045 with a low speed fan on my XP 1600+ because I want a quiet setup. At first, I will not OC, but later on, I might consider it. If I go to OC my chip, how difficult is it to swap out fans if my HS is already installed on the chip? Can I do this easily, or will I have to pull the HS off of the CPU to swap fans?

I'm asking this because I've heard a few problems mounting the fans on the 8045.

TIA,

Sal

it shouldnt be too hard, unless you dont have enough room to pull the screws out, since they kinda go in/out an angle

Nah, its cake. If mounted correctly the 8045 won't move, just hold the heatsink when unscrewing the fans so it doesn't cause any sideways grinding if the screws are tight. Easiest way to reinstall it afterwards is to put all the screws through the fan before reseating it on the heatsink. Yah, they will be dangling out the bottom, but you just have to guide them to their original spots, and they fall into place with very little effort.

its a bit fun trying to get the screws out of and back into their holes, and the heatsink tends to wobble a bit (actually causing the whole mobo to flex a teeny bit) but its pretty easy. It helkps if you tip the case on its side first.

Do what chizow said. Take it off, then put the screws into the new fan before mounting it, then line it up on the heatsink and screw it on. Not too hard.
