I got the hookup from some friends in the business... set me back just shy of 5K...

Well dang, now I feel really inadequate for what I was thinking of spending 🙁

What were you thinking about spending?... I've learned so much about diamonds I feel like I could go into the business now.

i had an airplane banner fly overhead asking her to marry me. I guess in this case it could be asking your daughter to marry you? hehe jk sort of

I think sometimes the most romantic proposals are the ones that are unexpected. When my husband proposed, he had the ring, but really was worried about how to do it and make it perfect. I think he was so stressed trying to think about how to make it perfect that he just decided to go for it right then. I remember I was sitting at my computer, he came over got down on one knee and proposed. He was nervous and a stumbled a bit. It was a more perfect proposal than I could have imagined. Might not sound like much to some but to me he couldn't have done anything to make that night better. Of course the added bonus, we were at home all alone so we didn't have to waste anytime to start 'celebrating'.😉

My suggestion just go with your gut instinct. You should know her best and whatever you do I am sure will sweep her off her feet. Best of luck.🙂

i had taken my g/f to lake michigan to see the sunset in the first month we new each other. we went out to an area that you couldnt see anything man made at all.
i got kinda bored waiting so i was climbing around all the boulders and stuff and found a boulder that had split in 2 places and the center of it was loose but like stuck in there.

so i started working it around a bit and finally started getting the biggest rocks i could lift to smash it with. it just got wedged tighter in there. grrrrrrrrrr

well the sun went down and we had to get out of there before bears came out or something because it was getting dark.

i never got that rock out.

i was planning on our one year anniversary to bring her back to that place and let her find the rock that i couldnt get out.

it would be easily lifted out to reveal the words engraved will you marry me and a ring under it.

that was my plan. she left abrubtly after 9 months.

We just talked about it actually... not very romantic. We have not very impressive rings for now. When I'm seriously going to marry her in the near future, I'll get her a nicer ring and propose right.

My wife knew it was coming. We went out to a nice place to eat and then to a movie. She made it clear she didn't want me proposing in a public place so I waited till we got home and then I proposed to her.
You might want to find out how she feels about a proposal when there are people around. If she doesn't care for people around then obviously make sure nobody is nearby when you propose.
Good luck man. 🙂

I suppose I could keep it very simple... go for a walk... sit on the fore mentioned beach, wait for appropriate moment... hand her a box of chocolates with the ring inside. Drop to the knee... shabang.

-Max

I think that idea sounds nice 🙂
You don't want to go too overboard, although you know her best
and maybe she would like something unique and crazy.
Good lord... that ring is gorgeous!
Congrats...and good luck! She'll love it!

I don't believe in going overboard in anything like that, so you might not want to listen to me 😉

Very nice ring?????
Man, this ring would fit a princess

why does everyone feel the need to make it a big deal? what ever happened to just doing it the old fashioned way and not being a giant douchebag, spending tons of money and making a big scene. just get on a knee, ask her, and go home and rail her over the couch.

/thread

are you married? She's gonna need a good story to tell to make her girlfriends make coo coo sounds.

-Max

I agree with the simple approach 🙂

At the moment I'm willing to go up to about $1500-$2000 or so, only because I'm young and poor and don't make an awful lot to begin with.

It's doable for that amount, you just have to keep it simple and small... Look for a .75ct I SI2, fancy cut (princess oval, marquis, etc.).... and a simple white gold solitaire ring... and it'll still look fantastic and you can upgrade later....

like this for example

DASM! I thought there was a big size difference between me and my gf...

no kidding.

I'm 6'3" .. my g/f is 5'6" .. although the shortest girl I've dated is 5'2" .. made dancing a little awkward.

when i gave my gf her first ring i went to a store and had her go check something out while i bought one of those plastic bubble containers that had fake kid jewelry in it. i took the fake crap out and put my ring in there and put it back where you get it out of the machine and waited for her.

i stood there waiting for her and told her i was going to buy her a ring for 50 cents. i put the money in and opened the thing and got the one i put back in there(i just left the fake one that came behind it in there) and pulled the real ring out of it and gave it to her.

it totally suprised her.

if you do this make SURE you don't leave that machine😉

gl and she's a cutie:beer:!

no knee pads needed

I can't believe this has gotten 70 replies without a "At universal studios, when jaws pops out of the water" reply... you guys are slacking :frown:

at godiva you can pick chocolates and have them put them together for you in a box. give the godiva store the ring early and get them to add it to the box of chocolates you and your gf have selected.

then she opens them and bam!

hahahahhaa. just trying to build on the idea you seem to want to go with

Here's my response from this thread :

i tied the ring onto a ribbon attached to helium-filled balloons and stuffed them into a large box. when she opened the box the balloons rose out... yadda yadda, very cheesy i know.

word of advice: be extremely careful with helium-filled balloons with engagement rings attached to them on windy days.

I always buy her Raspberry Truffles from Godiva... ring in the chocolate box?

She's always saying we should go test drive a convertible

first date was at a comedy club.

She's expecting it, but she has no clue when

There's this cool private beach down the street from where she's currently living

The ring will be ready this week.

She'll be an MD in less than a month.

I dont have alot of money left to do anything expensive.

Already asked the parents for permission... they're pleased and excited.

us

the ring

help.

EDIT: Current plan

the plan right now is to just go for a walk around sunset, down to Pax river naval base... out to this little beach we know about.... have the ring in a chocolate box(I buy her godiva chocolates all the time)... when she goes for the choc I go to the knee. Simple but should be ok. Really need some women to read this thread and give their opinion.

-Max
Jezus! What's with huge guys and tiny women? It looks like you're going to crush her. 😱 Now it even makes my attitude toward you worse after your lunatic post. Don't you think proposing is a little too fast? I still think you should confess to her what you did before you even think about proposing. Living a web of lies isn't going to last forever. And please, whatever you do, don't hurt that woman. Remember you don't own her!

On a positive note: Good luck, nonetheless. 🙂
