Stumbled across my newly-wedded cousin's theknot.com wedding page, and i thought their proposal was pretty cute, so it sparked some interest in 'methods-of-choice'.

One special Saturday night, I walked into a room at the Drake Hotel thinking that I would be getting together with Vinnie's family to celebrate his dad's birthday. Little did I know what lay ahead! When I entered the room, it was aglow with candles and colorful lanterns everywhere. Immediately, I started to cry and asked, "Where are your parents?" Vinnie replied that he wanted to do something special for our 10 month anniversary as a surprise. Of course, his parents were at home relaxing.

He had prepared an area with 10 unlit candles. He told me that each candle represented one month of our relationship and that after lighting each one I would get a gift. Before getting the gift, however, I had to say something I appreciated about our relationship.

I lit the first candle and began my task. After I finished, he gave me a kiss - the first gift. As I lit the remaining candles, he gave me more gifts - a CD with love songs, tickets to a Broadway musical, three of my favorite types of candy, a framed picture of Grand Central, a colorful green box, and pearl earrings.

After lighting the last candle, I found the final gift wrapped inside the green box. It was a photo journal of our relationship. "This is a story..." it began. Page by page, it described our journey with images and words. The final page read, "this is only the beginning...to be continued..." At this point, he asked me if I had gotten him any gifts. Of course, my answer was no - who celebrates a 10 month anniversary?.

Thinking everything was done, I excused myself to the bathroom to compose myself. When I came back out he told me he had one final gift hidden among the 10 candles. I looked through them but couldn't find anything. "Look harder," he told me. Then I saw the ring and when I turned around Vinnie was on one knee. "Will you give me the gift of saying 'yes'?" Everything since then has been a blur.

my own is a ways off, but lend me your inspiration

I took her to the mall, we went to the jewlery story. While looking at jewlery she pointed out a ring and said "if you ever decide you want to get married, I would want a ring like that". I called the lady over, asked to see it, stuck it on her hand asked her, bought the ring. Made the jewlery story lady cry.

We throw a big Christmas party for all of our friends as a "Christmas Gift" to them. We make a lot of food, supply all of the drinks and encourage everyone to dress up to make it more of a cocktail party. When all of our friends arrived I had my sister help gather people into the living room where I made a speech, dropped to one knee and asked her to marry me. Thank gawd she said yes 😛

I gave her a small .06 carot diamond ring a month before just to get used to the idea that I was serious. She loved it, though the diamond was REALLY small. 😀

Her father is extremely old fashioned, so even though I don't agree with it, I asked his permission to make sure I measured up in his eyes. The next day, her father said to her, "well, I guess you're going to marry this guy....I guess that's alright."

That night, I took her out and she told me about what her father said and I played it off by saying, "I don't even think your father likes me..." It made her kind of sad, but I'm mean like that. 😛 We drove around and I tried to propose to her in a park, but it was too cold, so eventually we went to a restaurant where it was a little warmer. She ordered a bottle of champange on her own (she likes the stuff) and we ate a nice italian dinner. I started holding her hand and sliding the ring I gave her up and down her finger and eventually took it off her hand. She had been wearing it every day for a month, so she missed having it. That's when she asked, "can I have my ring back?" I asked, "why, do you miss having it on your finger? " Then she said, "yeah, I wish you could give me a real engagement ring one day..." I then said, "well, are you sure that's what you want..?" She said yes and I got down a knee right there and asked...I had the real ring in a rosewood box on my knee under the table through the whole meal. 😛 She was EXTREMELY shocked and cried alot. You can see a pic of the ring here.

jewlery store lady started crying because you just paid the down payment on her new benz.

jk 😛

Took her to the beach, had a plane fly over carrying a banner asking if she would marry me. Got down on one knee when the plane came around and asked her.

we had been talking about it a long time but he said we would have to wait another year after he graduated college to get engaged.

One night, we were laying in bed, he was making fun of me because i was whining that we were going to have to wait so long and he was joking because i refused to wear any rings until i got "the" ring and so he was playing with my hand in the dark and he slipped it on!
i was shocked. it was just the two of us and it was priceless! nothing extravagant or over the top but memorable for me!

I had planned to wait a while after I got the ring to ask her. A week or so after I bought it, the ring got delivered to my house, and I just couldn't stand it. The next day I took her downtown (Chicago) and we walked around and had some fun. We went over to Navy Pier, and I convinced her to get on the farris wheel. When we got to the top, I distracted her by pointing out the window. When she turned her head back, I was on one knee.

I'm gonna try getting someone at the Trojan factory to seal one up in a condom wrapper for me and put it inside the box. Make her open them for a while and whenever she hits the magic wrapper I'll pop the question. I figure this offers 2 advantages. First, she'll already be in the mood so there's guaranteed engagement sex; second, if she decides to stop putting out I'll save myself the headache!

You pimp!

For mine, I proposed to her on Christmas Eve, I told her I wanted to give her an early present and gave her a wrapped teddy bear, once she opened it she commented on how much she liked it, I then pointed out that the bear had a little chest it was holding between it's arms and to open it up, she did and saw the ring and just gasped, I grabbed the ring and said "There is no one else in the world I'd rather spend the rest of my life with, will you marry me?" and of course she said "yes!!"

We're getting married in October of this year.

haha awesome

I had a Build-a-Bear made with a goofy voice recording and a heart pouch. I put the ring inside the pouch and gave the bear to her (she collects teddy bears). She was really excited and laughed when she found the voice recording. I told her there was more and she started squeezing the bear figuring it was another sound box. She felt something in the heart pouch and tried squeezing it, but it didn't make any noise, so she flipped it over and opened it up thinking it was broken. The look on her face when she saw the ring was priceless 😀 She was so shocked I didn't even get a "Yes"...I got a "Yeahhh..." lol

Edit: just hit our year mark a few weeks ago 😉

Your cousin's husband owned himself. She's going to be expecting crap like that the rest of her life...

Aw damn I was hoping it was gonna be something like "She loved it so I tore the bear out of her arms and brutally ripped it's chest open and tore out the heart, bit into it and spat out the ring and said 'I want to protect you forever' "
