How did you pay for college

Straight cash ... worked in the summer as a vetern plaster ... family business started when i was 12 in the summers.

Worked really hard.

Soybomb,

Just get a loan whatever you can cause working just takes to much out of school. Of course, having a part-time job helps you balance things out but more than 35 hours a week can be crazy. I worked about 25 hours a week and that was hard enough. Just enjoy college while you can and the job after college will easily pay for it. I really wish I didn't work so much and enjoyed college more.

My parents paid for about 120,000 of it with loans and stuff. I would help out now and take over payments, but am currently unemployed. Should have gone to the state university instead, I guess. That extra 100K spent could be used doing other useful things and maybe I would have a job.

If you can't get a loan, what about selling valuable things you have (computers, cars, etc.) or transfering to a cheaper college.

jebus! i had these great views about college.
now you guys are sort of twisting them. i
still believe my college experience is going
to kick ass though. i start in august.

afk.

HOPE Scholarship + parents. My dad started saving for college the day I was born. Luckily for him, GA Tech with the HOPE scholarship and in-state tuition only costs $7,000/year.

Stock market. I started when i turned 18. I've now made more than enough money to pay for all of my years of college, get a nice car, and any other thing i may need. Granted, it's not MILLIONS, but it's a bit more than enough.

Do your parents give you money? Do you live with them at all (like during the summer)? If you answer no, then you're probably eligible to declare yourself as an independant student. That will enable you to get a lot more in low-interest student loans.

That's what I had to do.

Also I got a job as a lab tech/ work study student on campus that paid $10/hour (very good for a student I think).

I hope that helps,
Sam

I started working in my junior year of high school (had to do something, got cut from basketball team... last one cut 🙁) and saving. My parents helped me by paying for my gas and insurance on my car... oh and the car itself. I paid for college with CASH until my graduate year, where I could finally file a FAFSA without my parents, and got a loan for the balance. I also had booku scholarships, so my NET bill was much lower than sticker price 🙂

Well, i got some scholarships, about 6000 dollars a year, which pays for a small chunk of my education. Plus, Stafford and working full time 6 months out of the year have helped. I still need a loan though...

I get financial aid that pays for tuition + books, and there's some overflow that goes into my pocket.
If you're really desperate, working at UPS isn't a bad idea. I did that for a while. They'll reimburse $2000 per semeseter, and $1000 for the summer. You also get full medical insurance, on top of $10/hr salary. Not bad for a part-time worker.

Different every year. I had some savings bonds and I gave my mom half my paychecks starting my junior year of highschool but all that was gone after the first year.

My first 2 summers at college I lived at home and worked between 60-80 hours a week and about 25 during the school year. Unfortunately, I made too much and lost alot of aid.

I have been living with my parents while on co-op for 6 months but I'm paying rent in Rochester still. Between loans, grants, school and private scholarships, I wont be paying anything in tuition this year. I tutor and take notes at school and that should help with the living expenses and books.
